REGION: Feds seize alleged smuggler boat with 11 aboard

By North County Times | Thursday, July 10, 2008 2:44 PM PDT

SAN DIEGO ---- Federal agents intercepted a 28-foot panga boat early Thursday morning and arrested 11 alleged illegal immigrants who were onboard, spokesman Vince Bond of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

The boat was seized at sea about 15 miles west of Point Loma at 1 a.m. Thursday, Bond said. Agents with the border protection's Marine Interdiction unit saw the blue-and-white boat on radar then followed the smell of outboard motor exhaust to locate the boat, which was running lights-out in the darkness, he said.

Nine men and two women, all Mexican citizens without proper documents to enter the U.S., were taken to shore by the agents and turned over to a local Border Patrol office to be processed, he said.

Their boat, which had no registration markings, was towed to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on shore and seized by the Customs and Border Protection, he said.

The men and women were in good health and wearing life vests, he said.

The boat is the 13th seized at sea by federal agents this year, Bond said. The arrests bring the total to 69 this year.

Now, lets sell the captured boat and put the money towards rebuilding a bigger, better fence.

Brittanicus wrote on Jul 10, 2008 4:55 PM:We should endorse the federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) that would add real, razor sharp teeth to state immigration laws. We need more enforcement to stop the interdiction of trucks bringing in drugs and illegal immigrants into America.

Funding is being cut by the Democrats, so they can gut the border fence and stop the enactment of the Federal SAVE ACT. An army of ICE agents, twenty thousand more border patrol along with massive funding, to supply helicopters, spy probes and other equipment for internal enforcement. The e-verify data base the Fed's are using has a 90.5 success rate.

It would be a major deterrent against pariah employers, who hire illegal workers. Its pennies of what taxpayers are unknowingly spending now. We need 'no tolerance' enforcement, that will give maximum arrest and detainment of predator employers of illegal immigrants.

A new AMNESTY is in the works from Senator Obama, McCain which will flood America with even more of poor, illiterate foreign labor. Those who steal across our perforated fence, includes the criminal element with a third world country mentality. Each day citizens are slain on the roads of America, by drunk illegal drivers.

Then we have the street gangs protected by 'Sanctuary cities' like Los Angeles. The unsuppressed news reports will tell you about the child pedophiles, female assaults, murders, robbers and Social security theft. Our government secretly skims from your payroll checks, 356 billion dollars annually to support the illegal immigration occupation of our nation.

Unfortunately this is not all, because this doesn't take into account expenditure on education, health care or our overcrowded prison system.

CongressDaily reports today that House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Judiciary Immigration Subcommittee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) expect to hold a House floor vote on a bill to extend the E-Verify program before the August recess.

The current law that authorizes E-Verify is set to expire November 1. The lawmakers may use H.R. 5596, a measure sponsored by Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) that reauthorizes the program through 2018 without making other changes, or select another bill. CongressDaily notes that, “Lofgren and Conyers plan to bring the bill to the House floor under suspension of the rules, which means members would not be allowed to amend it.”

To Born in San Diego wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:23 AM:MY Grandparents came across on a smelly, leaky old tub, in 1906, from Sweden!

They had to have a financial sponsor, take a health check up, agree they would NOT be a drain on society and promise to LEARN English, so they could become CITIZENS! They would be APPALLED that the US has degraded itself to the point where we allow anyone to just sneak in!

THEY were "IMMIGRANTS" . . not common criminals intent on breaking our laws by their very presence here!

They mowed their OWN lawn ..as did I as a kid. Americans need to wake up and understand that ‘cheap labor’ is NOT cheap. It costs us HUNDREDS of BILLIONS to support these ‘cheap’ workers!

Tell me Bob wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:24 AM:How do we build a fence around the ocean? Ridiculous! We must address the core issues and reasons that these people take such drastic measures to come here. We must address the negative impact NAFTA has on Mexico and we must stop the corrupt government in Mexico and the USA. Our immigration system is broken and must be fixed. We need a fair and just immigration reformation and grant Citizenship to all those who are here in the USA. Apprehending one little boat with 11 illegal immigrants is not huge feat. They will not stop coming here fence or not.

Fond Fantasies wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:42 AM:Lady thinks we are "paying for these people". We are not. They pay for themselves (taxes, spending) and put cheap food on our tables. "To Born in San Diego" thinks his Swedish grandparents went through a rigorous immigration process in 1906. They did not. Until 1924, there were virtually no restrictions from Europe. All they had to do was buy a ticket on a boat. At Ellis Island they only checked for communicable diseases and a criminal watch list. But hey, believe whatever you prefer.

Duncan wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:45 AM:Don't listen to that 8:24 AM poster. The fence makes for a GREAT photo op. Voters just eat it up. Makes it look like the government is actually doing something.

Bob Tells it WRONG wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:46 AM:ARREST and jail employers who employ people who shouldn't BE here!

DO NOT "grant Citizenship" to ANYONE who has broken our laws! They are NOT worthy of the generations who did it the PROPER, LEGAL way! They have JUMPED THE LINE, are an affront and insult to 'immigrants' and should go 'home' to try it the legal way!

Drying up the 'jobs' by punishing law breaking employers will cause massive self deportation. It has been PROVEN in Georgia, Oklahoma and Arizona!

I know the illegals wrote on Jul 11, 2008 8:46 AM:can enter by air. They could be tied to kites and flown into the United States. Ultra Light Aircraft is too expensive, Pedro. Kites you can pick up at the ninety nine cent stores for ninety nine cents.

Some people would be lost without illegal workers, but I'd be more than happy to help them out. I even got my neighbors paying me with a 12 pack as opposed to $10 bucks an hour like they used to pay for an immigrant... Plus I enjoy the work. The problem is our spoonfed youth.. None of these kids know what it's like to "work" anymore. We need to work on our kids and stop giving them everything they want in order to re-establish america, make these immigrants leave due to lack of work. Hire a neighborhood kid to mow your lawn or trim your hedges...

To Tell Me Bob wrote on Jul 11, 2008 10:27 AM:Check border patrols stance on border fences and you will find they found fences drive illegal's off to open unprotected areas.
Once the fence is built all we need to watch is the coast.
Compared to inland, most of the coast is populated where it would be much easier to catch illegal's.
Out on the water boats stand out and can be spotted miles off shore with night vision and radar.
Also it costs a lot more for the traffickers to go by sea thereby reducing the number of crossings.

Be sure to go wrote on Jul 11, 2008 11:15 AM:to the San Diego Convention Center on 7/13 & 7/14 when the mexiican wannabe presidential canidates will be talking to La Raza. I agree with Bob Tells it Wrong... wrote on Jul 11, 2008 4:26 PM:The people detained did not have proper documentation to enter the U.S. and were handed over to the Border Patrol for processing. Let the border patrol do their job at the posted check points and anywhere else in the U.S. they are employed. When we used to ride the greyhound bus up to Santa Ana in the 70's they always asked my husband (of Hawaiian descent) for his proof of citizenship. Why should it be any different now? We have no rights as U.S. citizens...If we get stopped by the police we have to show our drivers' license or I.D. but everyone else that decides to break the law to get here illegally can't be asked for identification. Somethings seriously wrong here!!!

rad man wrote on Jul 12, 2008 4:53 PM:the ONLY way this country is going to get a handle on illegal imigration is to create another branch of our armed forces to control our borders. Either have a branch of the national guard or create another branch of the armed forces all together. I honestly feel this country has reached its boiling point where this needs to be done. Will this then become a military state? I suppose, but I have no problem with this. Have these people trained specifically in border security, border law as well as drug inforcement/prevention. Work together with the police if thats what it takes. Illegal aliens have cost this country way to much in the social services we provide for them. I should know, I work in the healthcare field. Enoughs enough.
